"if the good lord's willing and the creek don't rise"

dark glade spun out to sunrise, you mouth the path to the creek,
it's dry river flat under rock,
burned out ash tree hanging her branch loosely, flocked white,
orphaned summer steps,
filled by winter grass, forced up late by october's lies, like the futile mouth
"this is a whisper and a man"
so the crow flies
"fell by steam and ice"
